Our visit to Smithalls Farm
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Smithalls farm with our wonderful nursery children this year. We had an action packed day exploring and learning all about the many different animals that lived on the farm- from the pigs, sheep, cows and donkeys to the alpacas, wallabys and meerkats! We are incredibly proud of all of our nursery children who were immaculately behaved throughout the day and were extremely polite and well mannered towards the Smithalls farm staff, who made some lovely comments about how St Clare's nursery presented themselves. We'd like to thank our wonderful parent volunteers who helped us on our visit to the farm, which wouldn't have been possible without their amazing support. We hope you enjoy looking through the fantastic moments we captured on the day.

Summer Term 1
This half term we have been very busy learning all about minibeasts! We have been nature detectives and explored our outdoor classroom to find insects hiding under logs, on leaves and in the soil. We have shared some wonderful minibeast stories, Mad about minibeasts, Norman the slug with the silly shell, The bad tempered ladybird, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Superworm. We have also looked at some information (non-fiction) books and learned some interesting facts about so many different creepy crawlies! We have enjoyed making potions to help save Superworm, designed and created Superworm superhero capes, dug for treasure, produced our own giant spider web, desgined and decorated a new shell for Norman the slug and made some delicious fruit kebabs with repeated patterns for The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

World Book Day!
This week in nursery we have been been busy celebrating World Book Day! The theme this year was 'bedtime stories'. We started our day listening to a new story, 'Do not open this book' by Andy Lee, read by Miss McGarry- we loved listening to this very funny book together as a school. Back in class we shared some of our favourite stories whilst we drank some lovely warm chocolate and we even took a trip to visit the school library in the junior building! We also created some lovely under the sea art work inspired by our whole school story, Flotsam by David Wiesner. What a wonderful day, well done everyone!

New Years Resolutions
In nursery we have been learning all about Epiphany and the Kings' journey to Bethlehem to visit the new born King, Jesus. We talked about our New Years resolutions and decorated our very own stars. We then role play the journey the Kings took to meet Jesus, holding our stars in the air as if it were the star the Kings used to guide them to Bethlehem. Well done nursery!

The nursery children have enjoyed being involved with our daily write dance this half term where they have had the opportunity to develop their gross motor skills through making giant movements with their bodies to music. They then follow a choreographed routine using their chalk to make giant lines, circles and spirals on the playground floor. Well done Nursery!

Nursery Christmas Stay and Play
We were delighted to invite many of our families in to the nursery this week to join their children with our Christmas stay and play sessions. The children loved showing their families around the nursery and showing them some of their favourite activities to do during their time with us in the nursery. We invited our parents and carers to get involved with our class play dough disco which was great fun and we enjoyed some story time together with the very hungry caterpillar! A wonderful day enjoyed by all. Thank you to all of our wonderful families for your continued support. Merry Christmas everyone!

Nursery Curriculum Overview 2018
A warm welcome to all of our new nursery pupils and families. We have had an excellent start to the year and we have already been busy taking part in so many exciting activities. The children are thoroughly enjoying their coaching sessions on Wednesdays with their teachers and coach, James, where they have enjoyed learning new skills and developing their knowledge and understanding of physical activity, health, well being and sport. Our daily play dough discos and write dances have been well received by the children who are always thrilled to take part in this wonderful opportunity to develop their fine and gross motor skills for their physical development. The children are settling in to school life extremely well and we are excited to be sharing this part of their journey with them. Well done nursery for a super start to the year!
Visitors to our nursery:
We have been so lucky recently to have some special visitors on our nursery. Our nursery children were so polite and well behaved for our visitors and made our visitors feel very welcome - and the nursery staff very proud.
Our first visitor was Catherine form the dental team. Catherine came in to talk to the children about how to look after their teeth by choosing healthy foods, regular brushing and visiting the dentist. The children had some wonderful answers for Catherine's questions and some even got to role play the dentist and the patient!
Our second visit was from Alison and Elizabeth from the library. They spoke to the children about going to the library to borrow books and attend the various sessions such as lego club! Alison then read the children a story called "Max the Brave." Some children were asked to help and play the parts of the different characters in the story. The children were very excited to receive their own pack from the library containing the story of "Max the Brave," for them to take home and share with their families.
