What a fantastic start to the Chess Club tournament last Thursday! Each child showed they were determined to win and I saw many fantastic moves that were well thought out and implemented. In one game in particular, a child checked her opponent in the first couple of moves. However great defensive play from her opponent kept her in the game. Children quickly learned the value of the Queen piece and changed their strategy to either use their own or take their opponent's as fast as they could. This resulted in many cheers when their plans played out. I'm looking forward to next week to see how everyone will adapt and use their strategies to be victorious.
