Year 6 have had an absolutely amazing today! A company called Past Productions have been with us in school, teaching the pupils a range of amazing things about World War Two.
The day started with the pupils looking at some genuine WW2 artefacts, such as gas masks, medals, oil lamps and telephones. They learnt about evacuees, the blackout, and rationing.
A highlight of the day for the pupils was doing some drama based on some propaganda posters- they found this a lot of fun, and also learnt all about the importance of growing vegetables, car sharing, women working in factories, the blackout, and being careful not to say too much in front of German spies! We saw some fantastic acting, we have some Oscar winners in the making!
Alongside all this, pupils got a chance to create some morse code and learn all about how this was invented to send messages across the country.
The day ended with a fun quiz, which proved that the pupils not only had a lot of fun, but also learnt a lot too. Most of the teams scored 10/10!!! This was a great experience day to kick start our new topic, and we believe the children are really going to love learning more as this half term goes on.
